ITA / LA CITTÀ DI CHI? Serie di disegni su carta in grande scala.

Le mappe registrano i miei percorsi erratici in città partendo da alcune riflessioni e domande: A chi sono dedicate le strade di Milano? A chi sono dedicati i monumenti milanesi? Le persone citate possono ancora rappresentare lo spirito di oggi (e se mai lo hanno rappresentato)? Chi no e perché?

In diverse città ci sono movimenti di protesta e iniziative civili che vorrebbero cambiare i nomi di alcune strade, e/o rimuovere monumenti dedicati a persone che ora sono in gran parte considerate criminali. Anche i passaggi di potere nella storia sono stati spesso collegati alla ridenominazione di strade e all'abbattimento di statue, per cancellare o cambiare la visione del mondo dell'ideologia opposta. Dov'è possibile oggi trovare una contro-narrazione al potere e al mainstream nello spazio pubblico? Continua avere senso erigere nuovi monumenti e memoriali? Chi rimane comunque escluso da questo processo di costruzione identitaria dello stato/potere?

Nella serie di disegni "La città di chi?" ho fatto un censimento di strade e monumenti, ma anche di quegli interventi temporanei e spontanei che si trovano sui muri della città, come graffiti, manifesti e slogan - in una cartografia che nasce dall'incontro tra peregrinazioni personali e ricerca storica.

ENG / THE CITY OF WHOM? A series of drawing/maps s of Milan.

Those maps follow my erratic paths in the city starting from some reflections and questions: Who are the streets of Milan dedicated to? Who are the people to whom Milanese monuments are dedicated? Can the mentioned people still represent today's spirit? Who doesn't and why?

In different cities there are protest movements and civil initiatives that would like to change the names to certain streets, and furthermore remove monuments dedicated to people that are now largely considered criminals. Also passages of power in history have been often connected to renaming places, and tearing down statues, to erase or change the opposite worldview or ideology. Where is a counter narrative in the public space?

In the drawings series I did a census of roads and monuments, but also of those temporary and spontaneous interventions that are in the city, such as graffiti, posters and slogans - in a cartography that is generated by the meeting of personal wandering and historical research.

DE/ DIE STADT VON WEM? – THE CITY OF WHOM?

Eine Reihe von Zeichnungen/Karten von Mailand. Installationsansicht, Viafarini, Fabbrica del Vapore, Mailand. 2021-22

Die Karten folgen meinen Spaziergängen durch die Stadt, ausgehend von einigen Überlegungen und Fragen: Wem sind die Straßen Mailands gewidmet? Wem sind die Mailänder Denkmäler gewidmet? Können die genannten Personen noch den heutigen Geist repräsentieren? Wer tut das nicht und warum?

In verschiedenen Städten gibt es Protestbewegungen und Initiativen, die die Namen bestimmter Straßen ändern oder Denkmäler entfernen möchten, da diese Straßen und Denkmäler Verbrecher ehren. Welchen Einfluß solche Ehrungen auf eine Gesellschaft haben, zeigt sich auch in der Tatsache, dass Machtwechsel in der Geschichte oft mit der Umbenennung von Orten und dem Abriss von Statuen verbunden waren, mit dem Ziel entgegengesetzte Weltanschauungen oder Ideologien auszulöschen oder zu verändern.

Die Reihe The City of Whom? ist eine Erhebung sowohl der offiziellen Widmungen von Straßennamen und Denkmälern, als auch der temporären und spontanen Eingriffe in die Stadt, wie Graffiti, Plakate und Slogans. Mit den Zeichnungen der Serie entstand eine Kartographie in der sich persönliche Spaziergänge und historische Forschung begegnen.
