ENG Earth Maps help us to find our position. They show the precise point where we are so that we can chart a route to where we want to go. Now-a-days maps made of paper have been outdated by newly invented devices that accomplish their original function. But a map is not only a tool to check a direction, an orientation, but it also expresses a way of thinking, a picture of the reality according to the moment. This needlework is a map of our planet. The appearance of Earth is based on the drawing of Christopher and Ralph Scotese that shows how our planet will look 250 million years from now: a geography unfamiliar and unrecognisable to us. On the embroidery is listed a selection of science fiction novels, all of them dealing with a future scenery where there isn't anymore the memory of a planet named Earth, or where it exists only in legends

DE Earth Landkarten helfen uns unsere Position zu finden. Sie zeigen uns den präzisen Punkt, an dem wir uns befinden, so dass wir eine Route zu dem Ort festlegen können, den wir erreichen wollen. Heutzutage werden die veralteten Landkarten aus Papier durch die neu erfundenen Geräte ersetzt, die ihre usprünglichen Funktionen übernehmen. Doch eine Landkarte ist nicht nur ein Werkzeug, um die Richtung zu prüfen oder eine Orientierung zu ermöglichen, sie drückt vielmehr auch eine Art zu denken aus, ein Bild der Wirklichkeit, das der jeweiligen Zeit ihrer Entstehung entspricht. Die Nadelarbeit ist eine Landkarte unseres Planeten. Das Erscheinungsbild der Erde basiert auf einer Zeichnung von Christopher und Ralph Scotese, die unseren Planeten zeigt, wie er in 250 Millionen Jahren aussehen wird: eine uns fremdartig und unkenntlich erscheinende Landschaft. Auf der Nadelarbeit befindet sich eine aufgelistete Auswahl von Science-Fiction-Romanen, die alle von einer Zukunftsvision handeln, in der es die Erinnerung an den Planeten Erde nicht mehr gibt oder die Erde nur noch als Legende existiert. |
